"Collection of the Application of the Mind and the Study of the Way"
Texts by Master Dōgen, with commentary by Master Deshimaru.
Volume 4 of the Complete Edition of Master Deshimaru's oral teachings. New edition.
The Gakudōyōjin-shū is a collection of texts written in 1234 by Master Dōgen for his first disciples in 1234. In ten chapters, written in an easy and firm style, Dōgen sets out the teachings necessary for the practice of Zen sōtō.
The Gakudōyōjin-shū is an excellent gateway to Master Dōgen's teaching. By updating it, Master Deshimaru's commentaries show us its relevance to understanding today's Zen, the direct heir to the Zen of Dōgen.
This work is the fourth volume in the Complete Edition of Master Deshimaru's kusen. The kusen is the oral teaching during zazen. The kusen collected here were given by Master Deshimaru during the fifteen years of his mission in Europe.
This 2022 reprint, under the direction of Gérard Chinrei Pilet, corrects numerous errors and adds enlightening notes on the context in which the two masters, Dōgen and Deshimaru, gave their teachings.
